MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Five West Virginia University student-athletes were named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Women’s Basketball Team, as announced by the league on Thursday.
Montgomery, a native of Pittsburgh, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology last May and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in communications studies. Pardee, an exercise physiology major, garnered Academic All-Big 12 Rookie honors a year ago and was tabbed to WVU’s Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
Brewer, who is currently enrolled in general studies, also grabbed Academic All-Big 12 Rookie accolades in 2016 and was selected to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll. Ray, a criminology major, is also a Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll recipient. Additonally, Rhodes, a senior sociology and anthropology major, also earned Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades.
Fifty one student-athletes were named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Women’s Basketball Team. Thirty-five selections make up the first team with 16 honorees are on the second team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
